German
Tutor: Brigitte Diplock
Beginners:
An introduction for absolute beginners to the language of survival / holiday German.
The emphasis here is on comprehension and communication at a basic level.
By the end of the day you should feel confident to understand and respond in German to some simple everyday expressions that a first-time traveller may encounter in a German-speaking environment.
Intermediate:
For people who wish to develop more confidence or who feel that their German has gone rusty.
You will be expected to have mastered survival German and be ready for extending your knowledge of vocabulary and grammer.
There will be an introduction to past tenses and an insight into the culture and history of German-speaking countries.
In the first session of the day we will try to find the right level for the group to make sure everyone feels comfortable.
Advanced:
A day for confident and experienced people, who have done at least four years of part-time study and want to keep up their conversation and writing skills in German.
Grammatical structures will be revised and there will be plenty of opportunities for exploring cultural topics related to German-speaking countries.
The emphasis will be on communication and the topics of conversation will be very flexible, with suggestions from you being particulary welcome.
The whole emphasis of these taster courses will be on informal, relaxed and enjoyable learning at every level, with the possibility of more regular, longer courses being organised.
